the title, which is also the first lyric of the chorus can clearly be related to dan circa any time in the past, as she was infamous for having an irregular sleep rhythm. this phenomenon is also a substantial plot device for many phanfics from circa 2013-2016.

furthermore, the general unsetteling, horror-esque picture painted by the lyrics can be compared to DanAndPhilCRAFTS, specifically the experience of a demonic entity being present as well as the looming threat of death by otherworldly forces.

beyond that, in his 2009 piece "Phillippa" Philip Lester creates the haunting and unsetteling female character "Phillippa". by the repetitive mention of blood, as well as end quote "I want to eat your soul", Lester clearly paints a picture of a seemingly innocent character with demonic traits. this mirrors the character described in the song below.

Great Vacation - Dirt Poor Robin

Already the cover of this song visually reminds of Daniel Howell standing on the steps during his stage show "We're All Doomed" (WAD). You can see a heavily backlight figure standing on the top of some stairs.

Generally the main theme of the song, the end of the world and the reckoning that comes along with it, also ties in well with WAD. Both examine phenomena of the current state of the world and humanitie's role in it. However, it should be noted that Howell's stage show ultimately ends on a more hopeful and action-focused note than this song, which merely carries a vaguely hopeful note in its melody but ultimately has accepted the end and awaits it passively.

Ship in a Bottle - fin

This song talks about mental health struggles in the metaphor of a ship trying to stay afloat in a bottle. It tackles topics such as desperately trying and failing to grapple for control and struggeling to take action. In his best selling book "You Will Get Through This Night" (YWGTTN) Daniel Howell tackles various struggles with mental health. The first section of the book, "This Night", is meant to aid in especially bad moments, emergencies, and gives tools to "cope with overwhelming negative feelings" (Howell, 2021). The song "Ship in a Bottle" describes precisely moments like this, where grounding is deperately needed.

Furthermore, Phan is a ship. In fact, it is the most popular RPF ship according to Tumblr (2024), besting even the likes of Jedus (Jesus/Judas).

Farewell Wanderlust - The Amazing Devil

This song is quite frankly too long to examine in detail, as it is past midnight now, however I do want to take the time to point out a few notable things. First and Foremost there is a similarity in the names of "The Amazing Devil" and "AmazingPhil", who has previously been dressed up as a "handsome devil" (DanAndPhilGAMES, 2023).

This song revolves around the confrontation of one's inner demons in strong relation to regrets from the past. Parts of the Phandom have been (self-)described as "demons" in the pasts, so the original meaning of the struggle with inner demons can be widened to the outer struggle of Dan and Phil with the Phandom, which is a phenomon that can largely be placed in the past.

Lyrics such as "I'm the face that stares back when the screen goes to black" and "Every time that you fumble, I'm the laugh from the back; When you think about him, my wings start to flap" can be interpreted in that way, however perhaps most devastingly the last plea of the song:

Why they’d decided to come back here, Nile doesn’t know, but it’s a nice enough area, and a good distraction from, well. Everything. Growing back a leg, she’s discovered, is not fun. 

From one of the other rooms – she thinks it’s the kitchen, she’s not actually sure where Nicky had wandered to – there’s the sound of something breaking and crashing to the ground, and a muffled curse. 

Joe makes a questioning noise in the vague direction of the kitchen. A few moments later, Nicky appears in the doorway, covered in dust. “I am okay,” he says. “But I think we will need to go out to eat tonight.”

“Nothing?” 

Nicky shakes his head. “Unless you want to start a fire and go hunt some rabbits.”

Joe grins. “Just like old times, right?”

Nile shakes her head firmly, which makes Nicky smile. She loves them, but there’s no way they’re doing that. 

“We can probably clear out enough space in here,” Joe says, gesturing to the floor. “Get the sleeping bags out of the car. Probably have to start a fire anyway, but…”

Nile looks around again while Joe says something to Nicky in Arabic that makes him laugh. The house is falling apart, sure, but it’s structurally stable, and the bones are all there. It could be something. They’ve got time to make it something. 

Nicky is the one who goes for pizza in the end – he doesn’t trust Nile and Joe to order it if left to their own devices – while they try to clear out a space in the living room. Eventually, though, after Nile has another sneezing fit, Joe suggests they just take the sleeping bags outside instead, which works out a lot better. He sets about starting a fire with practiced ease while Nile sets out the sleeping bags around it. They’re far enough away from civilisation that she can’t hear cars passing by, which is kind of surreal, and the stars are brighter than she’s ever seen them. 

When Nicky gets back, two boxes balanced on one arm and a bottle of wine in the other, he looks over their makeshift camp and laughs. “Just like old times, then?” he asks.

Joe grins. “Except we have pizza.”

“And actual sleeping bags,” Nile says.

“Ah, these modern inventions could never quite match the comfort of a pile of furs,” Joe says wistfully. Nile gives him a look. She’s ninety percent sure that one’s bullshit, but she can never quite tell with him. 

Nicky sets down the pizza boxes, and jogs back to the car to grab the pack of plastic wine glasses they’d bought before they got here. 

“We should’ve bought marshmallows,” Nile says. “Could have made s’mores.”

“Well, we’ll have to go to the hardware store tomorrow anyway,” Joe points out. “And I think it’ll be a little while before we can actually sleep in there.”

“Tomorrow, then?”

“Tomorrow,” Nicky agrees.

(the deal with lyke in ep 47 would be an outlier to me. it ruled though. love that for him.) so basically i dont know what would have to happen to get to a point of leap dying. things would have to be REALLY bad, right?

the other option i guess is leap filling the drive clock and retiring and ill feel kind of silly for thinking about this so much if that was the case, BUT i truly dont think that that will happen. like partizan as a season is so. the vibes are DIRE the stakes are HIGH
